Yay Nieces!

I have to interrupt my (recently) regularly-scheduled programming for two reasons: 1- my chiropractor insisted I take 10 days off from crossfit, and 2 – I have nieces!

Welcome to the world to our little turtle and bird, Abigail and Emily Donegan. So happy to finally meet you both!

wedding central

it’s been coming up for months now, but it’s now in full frenzy. my mom and i’ve been making tiny bows that my mom’s been gluing onto programs for the past hour or so, and before that we made gift bags and bridal party presents. there are a slew of errands to run tomorrow and then it’s off to do bridesmaid pampering, reshearsaling, rehearsal dinnering, and entertaining my sister on her last night of singledom. lest anyone get the wrong idea, that will involve wine and girly movies…nothing more exciting than that. the wedding isn’t until saturday, but it feels like the next 48+ hours will one long excursion. certainly the biggest effort my family’s ever made. so far it’s a lot of fun. not the kind of fun you want to have every day, but the kind that’s special because you know you don’t have to do it every day. :-)

back to business

it’s been a long break, but i’m back in london now. i’ve spent the past week and a half in the philly suburbs, with no trip up to new york half way through as i usualy do. i missed seeing my friends, but i wanted to get in a good quality visit with my family before my parents sell the house i grew up in (nostalgic, i know…) i’m too tired at the moment to recount the details but there were movies, drinks, dinners, doctors appointmens, haircuts, facials, etc. i made a few resolutions and this time i think they might stick. i’ll be going back to philly in april for my sister’s bridal shower and i hope to have some time then see friends in nyc, but i think staying put was the right decision for this particular trip. it wasn’t always easy, but it was quality. i’m glad i don’t live in philadelphia, but i do wish i were bit closer. oh well, it’s time to throw my head back into all of the things that vanished when i went home, and get back into the swing of being in london again.

merry christmas

my sister and i are up in my dad’s room. my dad’s just gone to bed, and i’m making him sing xmas carols with me while my sister wraps presents. it’s the closest we’re going to get to a real xmas eve i think. in a little while my sister and mom and i will go for our newly annual xmas eve drink, and tomorrow morning we’ll make omlettes, drink egg nog, and open gifts. my sister and i are determined to make this year resemble the christmases we used to know… it’s pretty much all in our heads though. i hope everyone has a wonderful holiday, however you choose to celebrate it.

yay aj!

aj’s got a new job! hooray hooray hooray!

we love cheese

congratulations to the cheese lady on her first day of work!

hiding on the couch

i’m back on the couch in my parents’ living room, the same couch i was crashed out on last time i wrote. it’s an amazingly comfortable couch, and i feel like i could melt right into it. i’ve had a great few days in NYC & Philly, but i’ve been nursing a cold throughout which seems to have drained my will to move. might have something to do with running around in the rain while i was sick. the eagles game is on, derek and mary elizabeth are here, and there’s activity all around. my mother’s getting ready for a birthday party for my dad, brother and sister, and i’m not-so subtly avoiding the party-prep work. more later….

back in the burbs

i just arrived in bryn mawr, PA. feels disturbingly uneventful. not in a bad way, but in a “hi i’m back from the mall” kind of way. it’s like i never left, and what i left behind no longer exists. in fact a little while ago (it could be jetlag) it took me a minute to remember that i lived in italy not so long ago. it takes less than an hour of sitting in the den watching talk shows with my dad and theresa to feel like i’ve been here for weeks, or months. i’ve almost forgotten entirely that i just arrived, except for the fact that my body is whining about being up for too long and eating too much crappy plane food. more later. must veg.
